Ed's numerous contributions include inventing the modern-day Frisbee® while working at Wham-O, where he went from VP R&D to CEO. He later went on to create the sport of Disc Golf in the ‘70s, and invented the first disc catching device, which revolutionized the game. “Steady” Ed turned over the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA), the governing body of Disc Golf worldwide, to the players in 1983.

“Steady” Ed was in Miami to meet and address the 300+ competitors attending the Amateur World Championships. He was with the current PDGA Commissioner, Pat Govang, evaluating the courses for the competition when the stroke occurred.  Govang, who has been in constant communication with the hospital and Headrick’s family, recently spoke with “Steady” Ed, who requested that expressions of concern and support from the worldwide disc golf family be sent to the Disc Golf Association (DGA) at:
